Submission Preparation Checklist

As part of the submission process, authors are required to check off their submission's compliance with all of the following items, and submissions may be returned to authors that do not adhere to these guidelines.
  • The submission has not been previously published, nor is it before another journal for consideration (or an explanation has been provided in Comments to the Editor).
  • The submission file is in OpenOffice, Microsoft Word, or RTF document file format.
  • Where available, URLs for the references have been provided.
  • The text is single-spaced; uses a 12-point font; employs italics, rather than underlining (except with URL addresses); and all illustrations, figures, and tables are placed within the text at the appropriate points, rather than at the end.
  • The text adheres to the stylistic and bibliographic requirements outlined in the Author Guidelines.
  • All images (including diagrams and photographs) are credited as appropriate. If an image is taken directly from another source, permission has been obtained to use the image. Please bear in mind that IJRC is published under a Creative Commons license. Permission to include an image must explicitly include permission to reproduce the image in IJRC under the journal's open licensing terms. Please do not include images taken from other sources if you do not have permission from the copyright holder.

Author Guidelines

Submission guidelines 

Submissions must: 

  • Be original and not under consideration elsewhere. 
  • Comply with all formatting and referencing requirements outlined in these guidelines. 
  • Ensure compliance with ethical standards, including obtaining necessary permissions for images and data. 

Submission categories 

1. Academic and research articles 

Length: 3,000–8,000 words 

Content: original research findings, case studies, theoretical analyses, methodological advancements, reports, academic reflections, scholarly essays, etc. 

2. Literature reviews 

Length: 2,000–4,000 words 

Content: comprehensive reviews of existing literature on a specific topic, identifying gaps and suggesting future research directions 

3. Reviews 

Length: 1,000–2,500 words 

Content: critical reviews of recent exhibitions, books or films related to the journal's disciplines, including analysis of themes, methodology, and impact 

4. Interviews 

Length: 1,500–3,000 words 

Content: transcribed and edited interviews with academics or practitioners. 

5. Opinion pieces 

Length: 1,000–2,500 words 

6. Creative work 

Length: 1,000–5,000 words 

Content: original creative work, such as fiction, poetry, creative essays, etc. 

7. Photography and original art 

Submission: digital files in high resolution (e.g., jpeg, tiff for images; pdf for other art forms) 

Content: original visual work with artist’s statement. 

Required author information 

  • Author name(s). 
  • Institutional affiliation(s), where applicable. 
  • If not affiliated, a professional description or qualification e.g.  John Smith, Mixed Media Artist. 
  • ORCiD ID if available. 

Required submission information 

  • Abstract, creator biography, artist statement, or project description. 
  • Keywords (3-6 recommended). 

Written formatting requirements 

  • Written files must be submitted in .docx format.  
  • Use a readable font like Times New Roman or Arial, 12pt. 
  • Separate paragraphs with a blank line. 
  • Use 1-inch margins on all sides. 
  • Number all pages consecutively in the bottom right corner, starting with the title page. 
  • Include all required author and submission information on the title page.  
  • Begin the main text on a new page after the title page.  

Headings 

Headings should be left-aligned.  Use up to three levels of headings:  

  • Heading 1:  14pt, bold, sentence case. 
  • Heading 2: 12pt, bold, sentence case. 
  • Heading 3:  12pt, bold, italic, sentence case. 

Capitalisation 

Use sentence case throughout the text for titles, headings, and references. 

Block quotations 

For quotes longer than 40 words: 

  • Place a colon at the end of your main text before the quote. 
  • Separate the quote from the main text. 
  • Leave a space of one line before and after a long quotation. 
  • Indent the quote 0.5 inches from the left margin. 
  • Use single spacing. 
  • Do not use quotation marks. 
  • Include a Harvard citation at the end of the quotation. 

References 

  • Use Harvard referencing throughout, using in-text citations for all quoted, paraphrased, and referenced material. 
  • Include a reference list at the end of the work containing all sources cited. 
  • Authors are responsible for ensuring the accuracy and completeness of references. 

Figures, images and captions 

Image formatting and submission: 

  • Submit original high-quality JPG or PNG files as separate files for all figures and images. 
  • Photos should be cropped with portrait layout in mind. 
  • Place figures near their first mention in the text. 
  • Number figures consecutively, e.g. Figure 1, Figure 2. 
  • Refer to figures by their numbers within the text (e.g. see Figure 1). 
  • Provide a caption below each figure, including: 
  • Figure number 
  • Brief description 
  • Source information (if applicable) 

Image citation requirements: 

  • Creator name 
  • Image title in italics 
  • Year of creation 
  • Medium 
  • Source 
  • URL 
  • Include full image citations in the reference list
